If there’s one thing we know, it’s how important superfast broadband is in this increasingly online world.

Just recently, we revealed how a slow internet connection can cause our heart rate to increase by as much as 31% and affect house prices as much as location.

We don’t want you guys to suffer any unnecessary stress or devalue your home, so here are some of our top tips for improving broadband speed.

Update your browser

We all know that installing the latest update across your devices is super important for security, but did you know it can also help them to work faster? This can make a big difference when it comes to using the internet.

Keep your router away from other electrical devices

A number of electrical devices such as computer speakers, halogen lights, TVs, dimmer switches, stereos, fairy lights, AC power cords and monitors can affect routers. Devices that emit wireless signals (such as cordless phones and baby monitors) can also have a negative impact on your router.

To minimise interference, try to keep your router as far away as possible from other electrical devices and store it on a table or shelf, rather than the floor.

Speak to your Internet Service Provider

If you’re constantly fed up with slow broadband, give your ISP a call. They will be able to investigate if there are any issues in the local area or if it’s a connection issue. It may be something as simple as upgrading your router or if it’s more serious, they should be able to rectify the issue.

Password-protect your broadband

We hope this is something you’ve done already but if not, please ensure you password-protect your router asap. Not only does an unprotected router compromise your online security, it means that anyone nearby can log onto your broadband, thus slowing the connection down.

Install a broadband accelerator or filter device

If your phoneline is causing connection issues with your broadband, an accelerator or filter device can help to minimise interference and improve internet speed.
